What I want to be when I grow up!

My beautiful little man would like to design machines that make things! He wants to draw conveyor belts and pulleys and things and then other machines that put on bar-codes on boxes and wrappers and take boxes to the trucks, that take them all around the world to sell things that people need and then all of those shops will give his factory lots of money because it’s really good stuff…. I’m edging my bets both ways by looking into what I need to provide him for his formative drafting years and also pulling out The Lorax to re-read him while involving him in some more Landcare projects! I’ll also be organising some more field trips.

A life of consuming, or focussing on others who only consume, does NOT sound like what my very caring little man is really all about. I get that he is interested in designing and that’s great, what ever he’s passionate about I want to help him with… as long as it’s not just about ‘things’ and ‘money’… because that can lead to an empty and sad feeling later on. If my little man found himself in a position where he was self-absorbed or absorbed in consuming ‘stuff’ he would have found that he had lost himself! Staying on his line, on his path… he wants to give! He loves to give! He loves the world and hates selfishness… he’s one of my best teachers – especially when it comes to reminding me about what is important to me.

Meanwhile, my angel daughter wants to study Science at The University of Adelaide! She mapping out her own future and I’m furiously keeping pace while also keeping that flow going with work… She is now 9 and will be finished year 6  work by the end of this year. I can’t see anything stopping her really! As long as she keeps her happy joyful smile going I know she’s going in her right direction and for that I’m happy for her, and happy to do ANYTHING for her!

As for me? After my children are finished with me as their full-time carer I’ll continue as I am now and as I was prior to their existence…. helping others the best I can with whatever I have.  Only this time I’ll know there are two more people out there having meaningful, happy and productive lives.

This week I learnt that;
filling a life with stuff makes it feel more empty, while helping within a community, family, loving couple fills up your life with happiness to share! Volunteering without any expectations, altruism and a humble attitude are noble in and of themselves. These are lessons I have lived a few times already, but just like a spiral life is a continuation of past present and future all over lapping and moving forward. I’m being superseded and I love it! I’m being wiser and I love it! I’m letting go of the past and have my eyes on the future and it looks good! Love my life right now!

May there be…

Has it really been that long since I last wrote a post? Wow, well so much has been happening it’s easy to see that life flows on fast when you’re having fun and that’s why I’ve forgotten to report on it! I also forgot to document our beach day outings because I was too busy surfing. Yes… I was ACTUALLY surfing! We had about half a dozen wonderful evenings at one of our favourite beaches, boogie boarding, body surfing and surfing. We also spent many days skin diving and snorkelling around our beaches. I’m very much looking forward to NEXT summer!

One of the many home ed social days… EVERY day is social! This was for our Secular Home Ed group… Maitland Park rocks!
My children had their birthdays, D is now reading (pink card series for the Montessorians out there) and M has her own sewing machine which she is amazingly a natural at using! One lesson from me on use and safety and she’s been making pillows, blankets and clothes for days now. Tomorrow we’ll be both making little dresses for identical dolls. I’ll post some photos later!
Our waterways are precious… our Landcare site

I’m busily writing a book that hopefully will help parents to either tutor or teach their own children, whether they are looking to home school or they have their children enrolled in a school. It has been a long time in the making and has undergone MANY changes as my understanding of what people REALLY want clarifies. It’s at a lovely stage of having an arch, structure and a buzz of productive type type typing. Any and all advice is most welcomed if anyone gets sparks of thoughts on what they think should be in such a book. I’m always open to learn more and the book will be more useful for your input.
Blackbutt reserve on an Unschoolers Home Ed group outing

Another day at our Landcare site.
Clean up Australia Day and some planting for the children too.
Life as a home educating family continues to enrich our lives in many unexpected ways. At the last speech therapy session D attended, I was asked by a supervisor if they could use the taped session as an example of excellent ‘manners’ for a child D’s age. All this from a boy who had been thumping me back in his school days!
Camping up past Mungo Brush
We’ve been camping a lot this year and plan on doing more! Looking also to travelling up to Queensland in September for the Unschooling conference!
Celebrating birthdays by climbing some walls!

Keep following that child…..
